Loop Tour through the heart of the Berber High Atlas

Overview

This 7-day Berber cultural tour takes you to the High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert through the heart of the Berber regions. Travel to the High and Middle Atlas, then on to southern Morocco and the spectacular Sahara desert, to return to the Berber capital of Marrakech via Dades and Ouarzazate.

This Berber trail connects those cultural and natural highlights of Morocco on the way from Marrakech to the Sahara, through taking the road less traveled by. In just a week you will be amazed by the great cultural diversity of Morocco’s tribal life, and the impressive differences in natural landscapes along the way. This trip is great if you have a bit more time to spend out of the city of Marrakech and want to combine a city trip with an adventurous journey through Morocco’s desert and mountain life.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Marrakech

Arrive at any time in the day. If arrival in the morning, a city tour can be arranged in the afternoon. Meeting with your guide to discuss the tour and visit of Jemaa el-Fna square.

Day 2 – Marrakech to Ben el Ouidane

In the morning, we depart from Marrakech and head for the lake of Ben el Ouidane in the High Atlas Mountains. On the way, we stop to visit the spectacular Ouzoud Waterfalls, the highest of Morocco. We then continue our way to the lake and you can relax and have a walk, or enjoy the swimming pool at your hotel with the amazing view over the lake.

Day 3 – Ben el Ouidane to Imilchil

From Ben el Ouidane we continue our journey to the Middle Atlas town of Imilchil, via a remote region where you experience more of Berber tribal life and the small villages of the Middle Atlas Mountains. 

Day 4 – Imilchil to Merzouga

Leave Imilchil for Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara desert. Travel via Errachidia. Enjoy a camel ride and overnight in the desert camp. 

Day 5 – Merzouga to Boumalne Dades

From Merzouga, we leave for the valley of Dades. We travel via the Todgha Gorges and visit the spectacular canyon. We then continue to Dades via Kelaat M’Gouna (the Rose Valley).

Day 6 – Boumalne Dades to Marrakech

Today you will travel from Boumalne Dades to Ouarzazate, the capital of the Moroccan film industry. You will then continue to Ait ben Haddou, and visit this famous village of Kasbahs with your guide. Reach Marrakech in the late afternoon, after you have crossed the High Atlas Mountains and Tiz ‘n Tichka pass.

Day 7 – Marrakech

Leave at any time of the day. Transfer to the airport of Marrakech by your driver.
