Explore Southern Morocco and the Anti-Atlas Mountains on this adventurous Morocco tour! Travel from Marrakech via the High Atlas mountains. Continue from the Sahara desert in the deep south of Morocco to Foum Zguid and Tafraoute in the Anti Atlas Mountains! End your trip in charming Essaouira at the Atlantic coast!

This trip is great if you want to learn more about the local southern culture of Morocco as well as the nature that this region has to offer. Above all, you will end your trip in the bustling town of Essaouira, a great combination with the earlier mountains and desert plains more inland. Deep South Morocco takes you off the beaten track, to for instance Tagdicht and Tata, places not many tourists visit. It’s a unique journey through one of Morocco’s most remote and undiscovered regions!


Day 1 – Marrakech

Arrive at any time in Marrakech. Pick up by your driver and guide from Marrakech airport. If arrival in the morning, half-day city tour of Marrakech medina and its most precious monuments (Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, Jemaa el-Fna square and Koutoubia mosque).

Day 2 – Marrakech to Zagora

Drive from Marrakech to Zagora, via the High Atlas Mountains. You will drive on to Ait ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, then continue to the famous Draa valley to reach the small oasis town of Zagora in the late afternoon. Relax by the pool at the hotel or visit the old city centre with its many traditionally built Kasbah houses.

Day 3 –Zagora to Erg Chigaga

Today we will take what we need for one night, and continue to the Erg Chigaga dunes with 4x4s, via the small village of Tamegroute (visit of the famous library, pottery makers, and Zaouia). We will reach the dunes in the afternoon, enjoy a camel ride (1 hour) in the dunes before arriving at the desert camp to stay the night.

Day 4 –Erg Chigaga to Tata

We leave the Sahara for Tata, and drive via Foum Zguid.

Day 5 –Tata to Tafraoute

Continue to Tafraoute, we will travel via a spectacular road through the heart of southern Morocco. Situated in the picturesque Ammeln Valley, Tafraoute is a small and charming town known for the production of belgha: traditional shoes from this region, and the cultivation of almonds.

Day 6 –Tafraoute to Essaouira

We leave Tafraoute and the Anti-Atlas Mountains for the Atlantic coast! Drive via Agadir and a scenic coastal road to the charming port town of Essaouira. Explore the medina with your guide in the early evening.

Day 7 –Essaouira

Free day in Essaouira. Enjoy a walk by the beach to the Castle in the Sand, go shopping for souvenirs in the old medina, eat the best seafood for lunch and visit the port in the early morning! You can also go for a relaxing hammam and massage, or quad biking / horse riding on the beach (optional)..

Day 8 –Essaouira to Marrakech

Leave Essaouira in the morning for Marrakech. Optional visit of an argan oil cooperative. Free afternoon in Marrakech, or optional half-day city tour if you didn’t have time on day 1.

Day 9 Marrakech

Departure day! Leave at any time of the day, your driver will transfer you to the airport of Marrakech.
