Which country is more welcoming and accessible than this one for a trip to the gates of Africa? A trip to Morocco, even short, is not without leaving imperishable memories. Morocco is a country of deserts, snow-capped mountains and dream beaches, still populated by Berbers and nomads. The mazes of his animated medinas lead to souks and riads.

From the dunes of the Sahara to the peaks of the High Atlas, Morocco seems to have been drawn for travelers and hikers. Beautiful landscapes follow one another in this part of North Africa, such as the colorful carpets that you will discover in the local cooperatives. The mountains – including the High Atlas, the Rif and the sun-scorched chains leading to the oases of the Sahara – offer simple and fabulous pleasures such as night skies lined with glittering stars or the view of a bank of fluffy clouds of the pass. Tizi n’Tichka. Further down, the jagged shores, waterfalls and caves of the wooded hills and the majestic desert will not fail to amaze you.

Of course, a week will only allow a glimpse of a tiny part of Morocco: it will make choices. Several routes are possible, Follow our Morocco guide to prepare your 7-day visit to this moving country.

Quick visit to the desert

Days 1 and 2:

Marrakesh. In itself, could justify a stay of a whole week. That’s why three days seem a minimum to visit the city. The great classics of Marrakech are on the program: long walks in the medina, some time to get lost in the streets, shopping on the various souks, Djemaa El-Fna square that comes alive in the evening, the Koutoubia mosque, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Saadian tombs, etc., etc.

In the evening, share your time between traditional restaurants and trendy clubs in Guéliz and Avenue Mohamed V.

To stay, a riad in the heart of the medina will give another dimension to these two days, but choose your addresses. The hostel helps small budgets, hotel-clubs of the Palmeraie are useful for families and lovers of leisure and equipment of all kinds … choose your address!

Days 3 and 4:

The next two days will be devoted to the desert.

Leave Marrakech for Ouarzazate, with a beautiful route through the Atlas Mountains, beautiful landscapes (passes over 2000 meters, villages, ksar …). In Ouarzazate, a choice of hotels of all categories, guest houses and residences, according to your budget.

Plan a day trip in the desert, renting a 4×4 or through an agency for a camel ride. If time allows you, you can opt for a bivouac formula in the desert … Similarly, make the detour by Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, classified by UNESCO, filming location of many films.

In short, two days during which you will not have time to get bored!

Days 5 and 6:

Leave early Ouarzazate because a long road waiting for you to reach the coast. This is where a personal vehicle is particularly welcome …

Cape on Essaouira, to spend the last days of the trip. As accommodation, rather than modern hotels on the seafront, choose a riad in the beautiful medina, classified by Unesco. The latter will hold all the attention, with its unique decor and its souks, but do not neglect the walk on the ramparts, the Moroccan kasbah to the Portuguese sqala, with the Atlantic in the background.

Also enjoy the pleasures of the beach, water sports (windsurfing has the coast …), the general atmosphere …

Day 7:

On the way to Marrakech, from where we take reluctantly the return flight ..!

Visit northern Morocco in a week.

If you want to spend a week off the beaten path to visit northern Morocco, you’ve come across the right article! Here we will not follow a traditional route but a route followed by Moroccans during their holidays. Of course, we will return to the crowd and tourist madness in Chefchaouen, but it is worth it.

Tetouan in 3 days!

Tetouan is one of the largest cities in the Rif Valley, bordering the Mediterranean. Its particularity is to be an all-white city. You should know that its medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there is plenty to it. A real little treasure hidden between sea and mountains.

The first day, we walk in the new city and in the medina. We enter the medina by one of its doors: Bab el Okla door. There is nothing left to be lost in this anthill full of life, odors and exotic sounds. The medina is like a huge market where the salesmen swarm. They are established by district: the district of tanners, the quarter of the leather, the fruits, the jewels … There is something for all tastes. Stop by in a small troquet, sip a mint tea in the big glasses, so particular of the north, to impregnate you with the so irresistible atmosphere of the medina of Tetouan, one of my best moments in Morocco!

The second day, do not hesitate to go around the beaches around Tetouan, in summer as in winter, you will appreciate this special charm that have these beaches with black sand of the Mediterranean. There is Cabo Negro first; the seaside resort of Tetouan. A beautiful beach overlooked by a green hill. There are many luxury villas, it is the place of appointment of the Moroccan Jet Set. Take the time to make the mountain road that separates Tetouan from Oued Laou. 44 kilometers on a winding road where we follow creeks and beaches more beautiful than the others: Sidi abdeslam Beach, Beni Maadane beach, Azla Beach, you can extend the stay in Tetouan for 3 days if you want to discover all the beaches  …. One of the nice things to do is to stop at one of the little restaurants by the beaches and stuff yourself with fish and octopus. There is no need to worry, the seafood here is really fresh, no risk. Eat fish, and watch the ocean as well as the sinners who go off in their small boats: guaranteed effect!
